lawrence wants its stormwater utility money!

THIS IS A LETTER FROM MAYOR CANTWELL TO REP HINKLE IN SUPPORT OF AMENDING HOUSE BILL HB-1212 TO ALLOW THE CITY OF LAWRENCE TO KEEP ITS STORMWATER UTILITY MONEY (RATHER THAN HAND IT OVER TO INDIANAPOLIS). THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR LAWRENCE AND EVEN MORE IMPORTANT FOR INDIAN LAKE FOR FUNDING OF CRUCIAL STORMWATER-RELATED PROJECTS.

I URGE ALL ILIA MEMBERS TO WRITE, EMAIL OR CALL BRIAN BOSMA IN SUPPORT OF THIS!

VIA FACSIMILE

The Honorable Phil Hinkle
State Representative
House District 92

Re: Letter of Support for Amendment to HB-1212

Dear Representative Hinkle:

As Mayor of the City of Lawrence, I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of my support of your Amendment to HB-1212.

The issue for excluded cities is the storm water user fees that were collected by the City of Indianapolis from properties in the excluded cities but were not spent on storm water management within the cities as promised. Nor were the funds returned to the cities so they could address the storm water problems they were experiencing. The excluded cities found themselves in a “Catch-22”.

The passing of your Amendment to HB-1212 would allow the excluded cities to pass their own storm water ordinance, keep the collected storm water user fees from their property owners and use the money to manage the storm water issues within their individual cities on a timely basis.

By copy of this letter via facsimile, I am asking our district representatives, the Hon. Brian Bosma and the Hon. Mae Dickinson, to support the Amendment to HB-1212.

Sincerely,

Deborah L. Cantwell
Mayor, City of Lawrence

waste transfer station at 56th & pendleton pike

Let’s keep the gateway to the City of Lawrence clean!

Show your opposition to the proposed GARBAGE TRANSFER STATION at 56TH & PENDLETON PIKE, (10000 E. 56th street, Waste Mgt. of Indiana)

Please attend the public hearing Tuesday, Jan. 31st, 7PM. The hearing is at the Lawrence Government Center (public assembly room) located at 9001 E. 59th Street, (corner of 59th and Post Road)

With this proposal:
• future retail development of 56th & Pendleton Pike area in jeopardy
• property values will go down
• traffic crossing 56th street will be more congested - visitors offended
• investment in Lawrence’s new downtown jeopardized

Let’s not direct garbage trucks & semi’s into the city.

The proposed Garbage Transfer Station includes:
• 120 garbage trucks unloading garbage - 24 hours a day!
• transfering garbage into semi’s from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm
(garbage not transfered by 5:00 pm will remain overnight)
• INDUSTRIAL, COMMERCIAL & RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE
(possibility exists for garbage outside of Lawrence to be included)

If you can’t attend the hearing, please write to:
